I'm just coming to the end of the work I've been doing on my series of #oilpaintings following my residency in #Marpha, high up in the #Annapurna range of the #Himalayas. My usual work is of industrial areas and institutions, the buildings and structures that keep our country ticking but that we hide away. I wondered how I would feel surrounded by barely a building in sight but just the mountains. How was I going to approach the painting of these mountains? Extraordinarily, I found much in common between the hard and harsh #urbanlandscape and the mountains. The mountains dominate the environment, and whilst on the surface they may be more aesthetically pleasing to the eye, they are also unforgiving, harsh and brutal. I found it remarkably easy to side step into working on these.
